Default starter problem

i have noticed that during the first start of the day in my 93 eg, when its usually still cool in the morning, my starter just has that "click" sound and does so for 2 attempts before finally catching on the 3rd try. the rest of the day's starts (when engine is warm) starting is not a problem. i had it overhauled at my dealer early this year and a mechanic-friend of mine said it is possible that the internal parts that have electrical contact might be dirty. also i am thinking that since they overhauled the parts, they might have just checked it and reinstalled the parts without cleaning them. any other possibility perhaps?
