Default Starter Solenoid

Anybody here replaced one of these before? I believe this is my problem; car randomly won't start (about every other week), but a good whack on the starter with whatever rachet is handy and I'm off to the races. Wondering if it's worth it to just do the solenoid, or the entire starter.
Thanks!

well theres two parts to the starter, the motor and the solenoid, if the starter motor spins free and just not turning over the motor than its the solenoid, but if you dont hear the starter motor spinning and just hear a CLICKing sound then the motors bad and solenoids bad.
but most the time its cheaper to just go ahead and replace the whole starter with one with a lifetime warrante so if it happens again you get it replaced free
