Strange VTEC Question
Ok guys this may have been asked before and maybe im just not seeing it. But over the past 6 months i've been building a d16z6 and im doing fairly well right now. But this is something that im just really wondering. The way i understand it the VTEC in the civic was more for fuel economy and emissions and things like that along with power. But the VTEC on a DOHC cars was more for power and thats it. With that being said are the VTEC solenoids interchangeable? If so are the VTEC's really different or am i missing something. The reason i ask because in a my car it just doesnt feel like my VTEC hits hard but in the preludes or SI's the vtec puts u in the seat. AM i missing a point here or am i on to something. Please no one flame. I am not a dumbass. I have been in and out of motors for a long time just not honda's until recently.
They are quite a bit different but on yours it is in fact performance oriented.
The main diff is that your VTEC is only effecting the intake valves.
On the DOHCs you speak of the VTEC is effecting both the intake and exhaust valves, making more power and more of a "kick"
