Default throttle head sensor

I don't know if I'm even in the right place, so, if not, I apologize. But I have a 2004 civic that I took into the dealer this morning. They said the problem is the throttle head sensor and it needs to be replaced. They also said it was nothing I did and they don't know why it failed, but, of course, it's out of warranty. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen,or if anyone knows why this happened. Seems like an expensive repair for a 4 year old car with 85k miles. Don't get me wrong - I loveHondas (this is my 2nd and my whole family drives them), but I'm a little upset about the expense. Thanks.

if it's a TPS you could replace it yourself...

maybe i misunderstood - but they said it was a sensor on the throttle head and that they can't just replace the sensor, so the expense is replacing the throttle head. it's a dx. and i am so not mechanically inclined at all unfortunately, so doing the repair myself is probably not a good idea. but thanks for the suggestion.

What problem originally prompted you to bring your car to the dealer? Was the Check Engine Light ON?

If you have a bad Throttle Position Sensor, then the entire throttle body indeed must be replaced. The sensor cannot be separated from the throttle body.
