Default Valve springs, valves, and retainers???

This may have been posted before, but i could not find it after searching.

Starting with a stock D16Y8 engine, what would be the benefit of replacing the vavle springs, valves, and retainers? Does it just allow you to rev higher? Any HP or TQ gains?

Sorry if this is a really NOOB question.

Rev higher- yes, hp/tq gains- no. Now if you replace the cam in order to use those extra revs, then yes on the hp/tq, but the gains will be had from the extra lift/overlap moreso than the revs. Of course if you plan to go past 7200 rpm you will need stronger rods too.

So for an all N/A build I should do a cam and the rods and pistons? What kind of gains can I get from a this type of build?

Check the engine section under building a D series.. shows a decent base walkthrough of what you can do.. power for a good build on streetable car 140-160whp
