^^^i like the way this guy thinks. get a stage 2 crower N/A cam and whatever valvtrain their website says you need with that, some JE flattop pistons and some Eagle H-beams. get someone to do the pistons and rods, then do the headwork yourself, then take the money you save by doing your own head work and get a good tune. you should be well over 200hp with that setup....oh and you might wanna start saving $$ for an exhaust and header. also...i'd start researching ITB's if i were you. N/A hondas LOVE them.

Is it possible to make over 200 HP with a N/A SOHC?

Yeah, but it would cost a fortune compared to turbo

^^ can be true, but i disagree. go to a junkyard, get a y8 head and headgasket from a 96-00 EX and the pistons out of a b7 (92-95 dx/lx). put that all together and you will be sittin pretty at a low 12:1 compression ratio...probably on 800 bucks tops.

btw when you dig into the bottom end, pull out the rods and get them shotpeened. its basically sandblasting the rods with small metal ***** and it removes the seams from stamping the rods. it will also make the metal much denser. the process has increased the strenth of stock rods tenfold.

Y8 head and then have it ported this would liven up the motor a bit and help you get the max HP from future modifications like header or intake manifold. I think my cylinder head is the most restrictive part of my motor right now. You should get that out of the way first I think it will reap the biggest HP increase besides NOS or turbo.

Does ITB stand for Intake Throttle Body?

No, Individual throttle bodies.

I'm going the NA route and keeping my d. It's not that common, I like to step away from the beaten path.

Do you guys think that sticky up top about modding the y8 had generally accepted information? As in, if I were to mod my d16 could I use it as some rough guidance?

Or is it disputed?

I'm fully capable of doing all the work myself, so I don't need to factor in labor costs so a swap isn't cost effective any more. The only pre-req with my build would be I would want to stay with 91 octane so I can drive the damn thing and not have to spend all my time looking for a gas station that sells 93.

from what i have learn so far and i am not 100% sure cause i have not tried this for my self yet. the pistons from a 1989 civic have a pretty high dome and you should be able to find them relatively cheap and on the EG and EK d series engine they with the EX head gasket they should give you a healthy compression ratio in the range of 12.1:1 and 12.5:1 (correct me if i am wrong as i said i am still in the learning process.)

and with that setup, what is the projected whp output? ballpark estimate?

I'm not agaist going N/A, but why spend more money to be slower than with a turbo. Is being different worth that much to you guys? Remember there is a reason that so few people do it. If i'm going to spend my hard earned money I want as much performance as I can get.
