what additional costs go along with a turbo other than the $1500-2000 kits you guys talk about? does this include the wastegate, pcm, boost monitor, engine pyrometers, etc. or is just the dedicated manifold, turbo oil return line, tap (for the oil pan). cuz a turbo would be delicious but the loss of fuel economy (so I've heard) durability and streetability seems like a gamble for my vehicle. i am not blessed with hundreds of junkyard civics to get another engine when mine blows. So is it viable option in an isolated town like goose bay labrador? if you guys think so i will do more rresearch. Thanks

A good turbo setup would increase cruising fuel mileage because fo the torque output. Turbos are very streetable and reliable.

As for the money, there is another $2000 over top of the price of a turbo kit to get it running correctly/reliably. You need a tune, and some spendy bottom end parts if you plan on running much boost, and optimized cam, fuel management.... etc.... etc...

forty...a 12:1 CR will put him over 200 easily. and if he has a little machining experience he can fab some ITBs out of an s2 manifold for a couple hundred and up the HP more and the throttle response will skyrocket.

200whp N/A is not easy on a D-series. It takes a full race motor on race gas to break that mark. And Nail, I don't know why you nut over ITBs so much. They're baller, but in actuality they only make 5-15hp over a normal single TB set up in most cases. If they're something you have the ability to fab yourself cost effectively than there's no reason not to do so, but otherwise they're just not worth cost.

Honestly, I just dont think that dollar for dollar you're going to get the same performance NA as you are with boost.

EDIT: Without extensive knowledge, experience, and shop skills..

^^ can be true, but i disagree. go to a junkyard, get a y8 head and headgasket from a 96-00 EX and the pistons out of a b7 (92-95 dx/lx). put that all together and you will be sittin pretty at a low 12:1 compression ratio...probably on 800 bucks tops.
can you also use d16a1 pistons as well and get a 12:1 ratio???

I'm an auto tech with a penchant for auto knowledge. is my stock d series going to handle a mild boost setup. i'm not looking for high horsepower. i live in a town where the highest speed limit is 100km/h and that is a dirt road highway that is the only road out of my town to real civilization ( even though i went 140km/h in a V6 truck with 32's down the main stretch of road) . i want at least 150 hp-max 200 maybe a little more and i want my engine to last at least a few years. am i asking for 2 much, cuz i'm a newb to the import scene.

P.S sorry for threadjacking

Because 15hp is a good jump on a NA D or B series honda engine. Food for thought a K20 with ITB's, a set of cams, full exhaust, and K-Pro will pull higher whp numbers than a EVO with full bolt ons, actually it will pull anywhere from 20 to 35whp more.

Put yourself together a turbo kit for $1,000, and get a professional tuner to tune your car with neptune or chrome to 200 whp.....The tune will cost about 5-600$ (including the system). The only other things you will need are injectors and a walbro 255lph fuel pump....DSM injectors and a resistor box will cost you 75$ on ebay, and the pump is like 100 bucks. Joe Shmoe can install the stuff for free and you will have a 200 whp civic for $1775 MAX. (until you get a racing clutch lol)
