Default what can I get out of my engine?

I have a 98 civic ex and I don't really know all of these terms of which engines are what, I guess I have a b16 which is a sohc v-tech. Just curious as to how much output this engine can make, or do I need to do a swap in order to make some serious power? Just wanted to get some advice before I go sinking a lot of money into this engine.

are you sure you have a b16 and not a d16 you can look opn your engine block. To find out where do a search on finding out engine type. There are pics.

It's the "d". If I could get some decent power from it I want to keep it ya know. I mean I think it would be kinda silly to spend another $4K+ or whatever on a swap to a Si engine for only what 30 horses when I could spend that on a turbo and get 100+ horses. But you guys/gals know more about this than I do.

Depends if you want the car to be a daily driver or not. D16's can make pretty good power as daily drivers. Thats what I have in my 93', I plan to modify it as much as possible all moter, and still drive it to work every day. Like I said, if you're not going all out on being a hardcore racer, then the D16 will do you good. If you wanna race hard, then a B16 would be your best bet.

IMO its your choice. the d16 can make some nice streetable hp figures. it really depends on your intentions with the car on what to do . my car currently is running a d16y7 and pushing in the range of 150-160hp at the crank on 7lbs of boost. that makes for a quick and fun daily driven car and still safe. now if you intend upwards of 200 hp i would recommend the LS motor or even the crv. although any dohc motor would suite your needs.

go ahead and purchace an edelbrock turbo kit out of summit for your car and a turbo xs dual stage boost controller. youll be smoking gsrs and si in no time. youll be pushing 175 at 7psi and 235 at 14 psi. thats the beauty of a ds boost controller
