What engine?
Hello, I have a 94 civic and was wondering what a good engine replacement would be. I just want a VTEC engine that runs good and isn't the most expensive thing in the world. The one I have in there now works just fine for me, but it has 209K miles on it too. I know that Hondas can go way past 400,000 miles if they're driven grandpa-style, but I don't drive like one lol. Anyway, I was just wondering what a fairly low mileage VTEC engine would cost me, just for future reference (deciding if I should sell this car and just buy another with lower miles if it gets too pricey)
i love the eg civic i might get one anyways......umm well i think since you have a sohc motor you should just get a another motor like a d16y8 you just gotta wire up the v-tec and put mods to the car and i thow you'll be glad you did it. unless your a money maker and dont mind getting a b-series motor but its gonna be over a grand.
oh you can get em, but you pay through the nose for it. its cheaper to get the damn j-spec GSR, which is only down about 5 horses, and up like 20 lb-ft of torque. but the b16b should come with an LSD, which many gsrs are sadly lacking.
sohc is not as bad as everyone thinks... although prolly many of us say go for the dohc. sohc vtec is a good bet man. my friend's gf's uncle got a civic with slightly mod d16y8 and he beat the hell out of a nicely souped Mitsubishi Eclipse.

You can't really go wrong with SOHC or DOHC, but when you're comparing two nearly identical engines (ZC's, for example), pushing about the same power/torque, with one SOHC VTEC and one DOHC non-VTEC, I would still say go with DOHC for tunability. Don't get me wrong, I love VTEC, and it's ****ing amazing technology (so many companies try to emulate it every year...), but a lot of times it is majorly overrated (people equate it with a turbo or something).
