Default What to monitor/gauges

I don't know about these cars, but on the diesel I used to have, gauges were crucial... what do you guys need to monitor on these engines if you're not modifying them heavily? A/F ratio, fuel pressure, and oil temp maybe??? I really don't know, that's just an educated guess.

If its stock nothing but oil pressure is helpfull. IF your modifyed at all a wideband o2 is nice and a EGT gauge. Oil temp is nice to have and fuel pressure is needed if you have a aftermarket FPR dont get the blinking light show A/F gauges. If you get real moded then an aftermarket fuel pressure gauge and coolent temp gauge is needed because the sotckers arent that trustworthy. good luck

What's a wideband o2?

I'm going to probably just stick to I/H/E and maybe a tune... nothing major. So I guess I'll need the o2 gauge (still not sure what that is... a/f???) egt, and oil pressure.

What is the comfort zones I should stay in when monitoring oil pressure, egt, and the o2?

wideband o2 is the a/f ratio but in voltage. Its good for tuning like if you have a V-AFC 2.

O2 14.7 - 13.7(at high end rpms)
Normally a good gauge will give you zones (green, yellow, red) so you know where you stand.

I recommend Autometer for any/all gauges except the wideband O2, that is pretty much a toss-up, there are many good companys that make quality monitoring devices for A/F. Do a google search and see what you prefer.

Yep, I ran autometer in my truck with no problems!

So I guess I'll look into an 02/egt/oil press setup.

If you bought gauges they should have come with directions that tell you step by step how to plug and where to tap so the work.
