Default chipped Obd1 for a 1999 honda civc ex

Chipped Obd1 Vtec Ecu will it increase better mileage for a 1999 honda civic ex?

My car is bone stock. Well one mod a high flow cat thats it. I just looking for a way to increase my mileage. So I was wondering if this ecu would be worth buying for my car.

If you get it tuned, possibly.

The basemap that comes with will probably run very rich giving poor mileage.

It would have to be tuned.

You would need an OBD2b to OBD1 conversion harness as well since the OBD1 ecu will not simply click into the harness. Also, if you live in a state where emission testing is around, you will fail with an OBD1 ecu due to no communication at the OBD2 port.

EDIT - you could always find a longer geared transmission to help with gas mileage, too.

I know I'm new to this site but the best thing that I have found to improve my mpg is just watching the way that I drive. I have a 02 Silverado that's lifted that use to get 10-12 city and 13-14 hwy. Just staying under 3grand while accelerating, doing about 65mph on the highway, and not forcing to stay my speed while going up hill has boosted my average mpg to 13-14 city and 17-18 hwy. Yea it's not a lot to the Civic world, but for a truck with a 6inch lift and 36's, that's not to shabby. I'd give that a shot before dumping money into a custom tune.
