Default Fuel Economy Help on 1995 Honda Civic si Coupe

Hi i bought a used 95 civic si 1.6 vtech and its a standard, but i really don't know how much i should get on fuel economy on this car. I usually get around 28.24mpg city or 8.3L/100km. Is that good for this type of car?

City mileage is impossible to predict since traffic conditions vary so much. I would say that your result shows there is no major problem. That model should achieve close to 40 mpg highway, if driven conservatively. 1995 was one of the best years for gas mileage, my old DX would easily do better than 40.

Whenever you buy a used one it's a good idea to replace the timing belt and check the spark timing. Spark timing is adjustable and having it wrong will reduce gas mileage.

Ya im going to change the timing belt latter in spring, i had a friend check on the belt and its fairly new but im going to change it anyways just in-case. Hmm spark timing, is it fairly complicated to do? Or should i take it to a local mechanic?

Spark timing is simple. Warm up engine, install test jumper in the plug near the ECU, connect timing light to cylinder 1, observe marks. Loosen the bolts holding the distributor and rotate it if adjustment is necessary.
