Default 01 Civic - shocks vs struts?

I think Midas just tried to rip us off. They charged us $1000 (parts and labor) to replace the struts and shocks on all four corners.

This 2001 Civic sedan, they say, has shocks AND struts on all 4 corners. Can anybody here confirm this? I don't see anything that looks like a strut on the rear.

Thanks guys.

A shock is what you would see on trucks. Struts are an actual structural part of the front end. You wouldnt be able to drive without front struts on your car. Your tie rods on some cars hook into the strut. So you would need the strut to steer. With shocks typically on most trucks or SUVs you could remove the shocks and still be able to drive. Cause their just their to smooth out the ride. There not hooked into any front steering components. On your newer cars they very well might have both. But for the most part..struts are typically found on cars/mini vans.

the 01-05 civic uses front struts and rear shocks. monroe systems are pretty crapy but im guessing you have a lifetime warranty on parts and labor rite ??? that being said you could have gotten a high performance made in america fully adjustable coilover kit for around $1,000 dollars like Progress Technology. the complete monroe kit online is around 400 500 dollars by itself it would take a seasoned mechanic about 3 hours to do all four sides for 80 90 dollars an hour. depending on how rusty your car is which also causes problems. so 1000 sounds about rite to me.
