Default 2 questions

Hey all,

I've got a '98 EX ~85K Miles.

#1 the AC isn't blowing cold air anymore. Do I need a freon recharge? Can I do this? How much would this cost?

#2 I'm getting a noise coming from the front right hand side. Something like a rattling, like a heatshield is loose or something. I haven't poked my head under there yet... Any thoughts?

Thanks...

probably the plastic guard thats underneath.. mines cracked and makes some noise.. and A/C usually just recharge at the dealer if the blower/compressor is still working..

It doesn't sound like plastic rattling... it sounds like metal touching metal. Maybe some suspension tidbits?

true that also.. i thought about this as well.. as i was told on an old cavalier i had, that strut was broken and would make a rattling noise over bumps..

in response to your A/C question:

a shop or dealer would have to do this. unless you have the refridgerant charge/recyle machine. this shouldn't cost too much (can't say everywhere) but you've got a newer car which has R-134a refridgerant. it is safer and it costs less because the old style R-12 is now no longer for sale and you would have to switch over too R-134a if you couldn't find a source. that means a complete A/C system overhaul. i had to do this once and it angered me. you should also get your compressor checked out as well as that may be the cause too.anyway good luck.
