Hello,

I recently hit the 60k mile mark on my 04 civic SI. I am trying to determine if this is the time for me to get my timing belt changed. I have tried looking on my honda maintenance schedule, but it does not really mention anything about timing belt at the 60k point, all it really mentions is for 60,000 miles/4 years "inspect drive belts".

I know the car had two owners before me, I don't know how they drove it, but I would consider myself to be the Severe maintenance schedule as opposed to the normal based on my routine. I just want to be proactive and take care of it before it potentially hurts my engine. I do seem to have some idea from somewhere though that 60k is the time to think about it.

I think that its time for your belt but im not sure. If so remember to change water pump while your in there and any other belts that look worn.

 

Nope, you have a timing chain, not a belt. The belt isn't due for changing until 105,000 (60,000 on severe schedule) miles if you had one, and I am pretty sure the chain isn't due until 160,000 miles or so. You'll want to double check that, but I know it's a lot longer than the belt version.

The drive belts that it mentions are the A/C belt, Power steering belt, and alternator belt.
