I have searched with a lot of different keywords before asking this but haven't come up with anything. I've got a stone stock 84 1.5, carb, 3spd auto. I love this little car ! My question regards the final drive gear ratio. At 65 mph on the highway I'm turning roughly 34-3500 rpm, which seems awful high considering our Camry and Tundra are in the low 2s I bought this thing for the gas mileage, (avg 34-35, 80% highway, 20% city). Is there any kind of swap, keeping the automatic, that would give me a better final drive ratio or even a 4spd auto swap to boost the overall mpg and keep the motor rpms down.

when that car was built, the fasted speed limit was around 55, so it was geared to get the best fuel economy about that speed. so going any faster than that will cost you gas mileage.

no swap are really available to my knowledge sorry
