Default 92 eg sedan OLD tranny, what to do?

i just got my 92 eg sedan d15 5 sp. ok, i was wondering what the best bang for the buck would be in my case. i dont have alot of money, but i got time and a little know how. so is it better to replace the tranny with a better one or just rebuild the one i got. i read a little bit about final drive and differentials and what not. plans for the car are a mini me swap, and later down the road a small turbo setup. im not looking to drag race my car, but i really want to get into autocross and stuff like that. so replace or rebuild? And what gains if any should i expect from doing so? any help on this subject will be appriciated. thnx guys

Replacing is easiest. I'm pretty sure ANY D-series transmission will bolt right up. So if you found one from a 2000, it'll likely work.

Im too fat to hop freight trains anymore.

And there are different transmissions but I don't recall which ones are which. I believe the EX or Si transmissions are better somehow but some people like the DX and LX ones too.

nonsense, too fat? did you see the youtube video where the guy in the wheelchair was hopping. lol i still call bs on that one. haha. thanks for the info. im thinking si, bcause i want to compete in some autox, si just sonds like it would be the better one for that. you dont see many ex lx or dx in road racing.

If your transmission makes noise but still shifts OK, you can crack it open and just replace the bearings on the ends of the shafts. The cost of parts for that can get close to the price of a complete used tranny though.

well it shifts good, i dont really hear any noise other than just road noise and the motor going vroom. lol but really im looking to get more acceleration out of it. its slooooow. but i know that the other mods a plan on using will free up alot of restriction, and that should help me. i just want to know if i can mod the existing trans or just swap for a si or lx like the hobo said. im gonna use the mini me swap and poss. a small turbo so it needs to hold that power. i say power like im gonna get alot out of it. rofl. any advice helps.
