Default 95 civic A/C questions

Hey,

So I finally have some money to throw back in my civic. I'd like to fix my a/c and when I went to the mechanic they told me that they have to replace the valve that leads from the engine bay to the interior of the car. Well this sounds easy enough where I can do that. I already have the manuel for the car. Has anyone here heard of changing the valve that leads into the car for the a/c?

Thanks,

The expansion valve is in the evaporator box inside the car behind (technically in front of) the glove compartment. The box must be removed first then the valve can be replaced. It is not complicated to do if you have equipment to recover, evacuate and recharge the refrigerant.

What else is wrong with the A/C? Did he say everything else was OK except it looked like an expansion valve problem?

Default expansion valve.....

ya I'm pretty sure thats what he said that he would have to replace. If I couldn't fix it my self, what would be a resonable price to have it fixed? Also the mechanic siad that everything else is working fine. The a/c was working last summer but the temperature wasn't reaching very low temp. I think that I'm going to tint my windows in addition to getting the windows fixed.
