Default 99-00 Civic EX VTEC or NO?

Looking at purchasing a 2000 Civic EX with an Automatic Transmission. I've read the post on this topic but I would just like a clarification. Do ALL 99-00 Civic Coupe EX have VTEC? I noticed none of the EX valve covers say VTEC, does that mean anything or not? Does the transmission matter (For instance no automotic SI)? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Correct me if i am wrong, but all EX engines are VTEC. The valve cover doesn't have to say "VTEC" in order for it to be VTEC engine. No the transmission doesn't matter when it comes to VTEC or not.

I dont think all EX's are V-tec, from what i know. Because I was going to buy a 2000 EX auto tranny, and it looked for v-tec, and it didnt have it. Now the 2002 one i looked at did have v-tec.

Thanks, I have done research on this and the only thing i can pull up online is that all EX civics that year had a D16Y8 which is the VTEC 127hp motor. If anyone knows anymore on this please let me know.

All EXs are VTEC, regardless of the tranny...

No, not all EX's are vtec. I'm sure you could find an EX with a B18A1 or B18B1... lol

So in other words, all stock EX's are vtec.

I have heard you can tell by the placement of the spark plugs on the valve cover to identify the vtec even though the valve covers themselves will not say VTEC, any ideas on the best way to just make sure it is so I know there wasnt a swap that took place?
