Default Alternator advice

I need some help from the board. I just replaced the battery in my '98 DX last night and I went out this AM to try and start it and I got nothing but the beeping from the key. My assumption is the alternator, but I wanted to check and get some different opinions or confirmation.

Are the headlights and dash lights working when the key is turned to ON? If so, your starter may be the problem. First clean the battery and starter connections and terminals with steel wool and reinstall securely. If the engine still won't crank, check for blown fuses. Next wire the starter direct to the battery to check whether the engine cranks. If not, the starter may be bad.

Check the connections first. Pull and twist on the battery clamps, they should be solidly attached. Try jump starting. If it still won't crank at all with jump start, there is probably a problem with the starter, key switch, clutch switch, etc. You could try to roll-start it if it's a manual.

Once you get the car started again, measure the voltage at the battery with the engine idling and all electrical accessories turned off. If less than 13.8 volts, the alternator is not working.

Also make sure to check the grounding points. Especially the neg. battery cable to the body.

well first off WHY did you replace the battery?
and did you try to start the car after you droped the new battery in?

if you can jump start the car.... and the car still wont start with the battery then id say your terminals are to dirty. that or you left your lights ON OR you have a power draw somewhere on the car that drains the battery over night.

needless to say it all depends on WHY you replaced it first.

There is a fuse box near the hood release level. I'm not sure of the name of it but there is a fuse for the alternator. Check to see if it is blown. It should be a 7.5 amp. Could have blown when you put the new battery in.

Also did you try charging the battery?

Josh,
