WHICH AXLE IS IT
Could be either one. Or it might not even be an axle at all. You're going to have to inspect them. Someone standing outside to listen while you drive past them can help to localize the sound.
I would change both if you have bunch of miles on the car. When I did replaced my axles the first one took a little over a hour and second about20 minutes. It really simple after you figure out how to do it and have the right tools.
