Welcome to the forum.

Definitely a y8 bottom end. Are there any codes on the transmission, or the head? Trans might be a longer number, and the head would be something like "P**"

The boot is a dust cover for the transmission if I recall correctly. I don't think there is a sensor in there. I am sure someone else can confirm.

I know you PM'd me about posting pics etc, but see if you can post a better picture of the wires and all that. Can you see a number or any markings on the transmission? Maybe those wires are going to the reverse switch indicator thingy in order to turn the reverse lights on in the back?

Ok the head says "p2j-5" which from what i found is just a head off an ex... so what im concluding is that i bought a 1997 civic ex 5 speed with "hx" badges on the trunk

Or you bought a HX with a swapped motor.

Do you have the title? Honestly, I am not sure if the trim level is listed on a title. What is your VIN? I am sure that would determine if it is a true HX or not, regardless of motor. However, the motor and trans were the only things that made the HX special compared to the EX I believe. The gas mileage they can put out is amazing.

Is it a manual transmission? The only electric part on a manual should be the switch for the white reverse lights on the back of the car.

There are few outside differences. HX has unpainted mirrors, doors handles, and the rear panel was not painted compared to the EX's.

Fixed the pics for you. You only need the

Click "edit" on this post to see what I mean. The IMG codes should be there when you click edit.
