Default Buying Tires

I purchased All Season Goodyear Assurance TripleTred tires back in Jan 09. They were I believe rated for 65,000 Km's which I have reached and there is spider cracking between the threads. My question is these tires cost me approx $150.00 each at the time. If I buy a lower priced tire does it make a big difference with there lifespan. Of course driving surfaces; tire pressure etc impact this so do cheap tires at a local walmart last that much less than expensive tires from a tire store if tire pressures are properly checked and most driving is on paved roads. To sum it up: Do you get a better tire because it costs more? Thanks for any help, looking to be more knowledgeable when purchasing tires.

Basically, tire selection is a trade-off between traction (soft rubber) and tread lifetime (harder rubber). More expensive general purpose ("all season") tires tend to keep both numbers up, but if you're more concerned about miles look for ones that are so rated.

I tend to go with the cheapest brand name tires, such as Bridgestone, BF Goodrich, Michelin, and Goodyear. That way, its sort of a compromise between price and quality.

I looked at many tires before I bought a set 2 weeks ago. Ended up purchasing General Altimax tires for my 05 Civic EX and paid $83.00 a tire which included lifetime balancing and valve stems at Walmart. They're a decent tire and so far they are meeting all expectations. Didn't kill the budget, either!

tires have a self life of 5 years before you buy new tires again make sure to check the DOT born on date on the side of the tire most shops have tires that have been sitting for years before there sold to unsuspected buyers.the born on date is the last four digits of the DOT code representing the week and year they were made here is an example. also i recommend buying from Tire Rack they have the best pricing and free shipping.
