Default Which Civic?

Hey everyone. I currently don't own a civic yet but I am looking. I wanted to get some suggestions on which year might be a good place to start that is both mechanically sound and easy to upgrade? Right now I am looking for a civic that has a good solid engine that comes stock and that I will be able to get a bit of additional horsepower from it without pulling the engine right away to replace all of the internals. Any suggestions?

If you can find a civic with an H22 in it, buy it 200+ HP and 160 lbs of torque stock

Thanks for the reply guys. Just curious, are there any particular years that I might look at that might have the H22 engine in it?

You're not going to find one that's in a civic stock (it's a prelude engine), and personally I wouldn't buy a car with an engine swap, but I just don't trust other people's mechanical abilities unless I actually know them.

As far as civics, if you're willing to go the forced induction route, a 92-00 civic EX or a 99/00 Si would be a good choice; the d16z6 (92-95 civic EX) and d16y8 (96-00 Civic EX) are both safe to about 250whp (which is more than enough for a street-drive FWD car) and the B16A2 in the 99/00 Civic Si is safe to about 350whp, all on stock internals. Also, if you like how they look, the K20A3 in the 02-05 Civic Si hatch isn't a bad motor at all (should be safe somewhere between 300 and 400whp with the stock internals).
