Default Which Civic?!

Well this is my 1st post and well to get to the point I'm buying a Civic (that's why im here). I'm 17, been driving for a year, totaled my last car. I've been working for a few years so I've got a lot of cash in the bank, still have to save some for college. I love tuners and workin on them and showing all the work you did!

The reason or this thread is I need some suggestions for what type of Civic to get? I do have car knowledge, I helped me friend rebuild his Eclipse's engine, did some work on my last car, and work on friends cars too. I do plan on modding the car, not too hardcore or ricey. I can afford to turbo the car and do internals so maybe getting that in the future, but for now just basics struts, coils, lips, intake, full exhaust, projectors, fogs, etc.

There are a couple things I'm looking for/don't want.

1. Only getting a Civic, I wanted to get like an Integra gsr but cause of the accident my insurance would be ridiculous.

2. Nothing newer than 2000

3. Absolutely NO HATCHS! (I can't stand crx's especially )

4. Can't really talk parents into a pre-turboed or swap.... my dad knows all this stuff so he knows what I'll be getting in to.

The main cars I've been looking at are like a 95ish-2000 ex's. They aren't bad prices at all, are vtecs, and are the body style I like.

So if you have any suggestions on Civics I should look in to please reply! Please give reasonable options too that I can find on Criagslist or a used dealer!

Another question I have which Civic's come with DOHC vtecs?

Thanks!

I would stick with a 99-00 EX Coupe. Don't waste you money and time getting an intake or header if you plan on turbo-ing later on down the road.

Civics such as the 99-00 SI have the DOHC vtec motor, but insurance will be higher most likely because of that.

Okay... I drive my sister's 2000 ex all the time and I love it so I'll probably end up with 99-00

Yea a 99-00 coupe would be your best bet for cheaper insurance. An Si or GSR will definally have alot of insurance on it because of your last accident and being a new driver. You could also look at a LS teg, comes with a non VTEC DOHC. The insurance on it would probably be cheaper. Too bad you don't like hatches, cause EKs are sweet to drive.

The insurance for an LS would be cheaper than a SI or a GSR, but definitely not cheaper than a Civic for the fact that Acura is the "luxury" verision of Honda making parts technically more expensive to replace.

Good choice on not getting anything newer than a 2000, they are heavier and much less tuner-friendly. They're also harder to slam real low, if that's your thing. I agree with everyone else though, get a 99-00 coupe. I have a '99 Si and I love it! If you can afford the extra money, I would definitely recommend an Si. They have a better engine (nothing like DOHC Vtec,) and they look much better IMO. I love the Electron Blue color, you don't see too many Civics in that color. Whatever you get, make sure you post some pictures or even start a thread in our project section!

yes 96-00 EX/Si, I got stuck with the DX and man the 1.6L is just a pain and no speed or torque at all. Prob. in your case with the insurance problems and all Id look for a nice EX stock for cheap.
