Default Civic VX parts compatibility?

Hey everyone,

I am new to civics and I just bought a 1993 Civic VX hatchback. I am looking for used parts and I need to know which of them are compatible with other models. My main concerns are-

Driver door glass
door panel
driver side mirror
Carpet
Exhaust

I assume that the other parts I need like the window regulator handle, glove box, etc are across the board for the 92-95. So for those other ones, will 2 door coupe stuff work on my hatch? How about 4dr? What about exhaust? CV vs VX? I know Si is bigger... or at least I think I know...

Hatches can be considered "tricky" when looking at compatibility... especially since you have a VX. I will help best as I can. I wish my 92 VX was still with me, I just didn't feel like tearing it apart to figure out what was wrong with it exactly.

Driver door glass should be the same for all 92-95 Coupes/Hatches. I don't think having power or manual windows matters.

Door panel should be the same for all 92-95 coupes/hatches. Just make sure yours is manual (assuming you have manual windows). If you have that ugly blue interior color (which I had in my hatch), I think those are hatch specific. I have never seen a 92-95 coupe with that blue interior.

Driver side mirror should be the same for all 92-95 coupes/hatches. Assuming you have manual mirrors, make sure the replacement is manual, too.

Carpet should be the same for all 92-95 coupes/hatches. See above response to the blue color.

Exhaust. Here is the tricky one. All 92-00 hatches should be the same. However, it is not necessarily true. Your D15z1 (assuming you have the stock motor and everything) mimics the 96-00 HX/CX/DX/LX exhaust set-up where the cat converter is placed in the manifold instead of after the exhaust manifold under the car (like all of the other Civics between 92-00). If you need a replacement exhaust manifold, look for one which looks like yours (cat converter in the manifold). If you need a replacement B-pipe, look for one from a 92-95 VX (or maybe CX, too), or a 96-00 CX/HX/DX/LX (coupe/hatch). If you need a replacement muffler, look for one from any 92-00 Civic hatchback.

You can convert to the "standard" (cat under the car) exhaust system by using a manifold, cat converter, and B-pipe from a 92-95 EX/DX/SI/LX or 96-00 EX Civic. Many people do this as the "new" exhaust set-up is more commonly supported by aftermarket companies. You would also need an o2 sensor extension to relocate the o2 sensor down stream. You can buy a harness for this, or cut and lengthen wires. I suggest cutting and extending as your VX has a 5 wire o2 sensor (not common) and I have yet to see a 5 wire o2 extension harness for sale. Be careful not to damage that o2 sensor in anyway. A replacement 5 wire o2 sensor will run you at least $200.

Window handles should be the same from 92-95 coupes/hatches. Maybe sedans, too. I don't have much experience with non-powered windows though.

Glove box should be the same for all Civics between 92-95. Double check on this if you are purchasing one from a sedan though. The coupes/hatches should be the same.

Let us know if you have any other specific compatibility questions. I was going to make a parts compatibility list for all 92-00 Civics, but the list started to get extremely out of hand (big) and I couldn't keep up. lol.

Awesome reply! Now all I have to do is track down all of those parts...

I am going for a good commuter car, so I'll probably stick with as close to stock exhaust as possible... I might even just weld my own.

You should look at your car and see what you actually have, because swapping the exhaust or the engine like cvcrcr said is very common.

My engine setup is stock. I would not have bought it if it wasn't stock. I'm in this for good gas mileage, not trying to be fast. I have other cars for fast. This is my 60mpg commuter... Eat that Prius!
