RE: which of the civics is most fuel effecient?
sigh
ok, here's something basic
civics come in 3 body styles, and depending on the generation 4-6 different model designations (at least in the US)
the 3 body styles are: (6th gen model designations)
Coupe (EX, DX, HX, Si) http://www.canadiandriver.com/articl...ivic_coupe.jpg
Sedan (DX, LX, EX) http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...ntheweb/98.jpg
Hatchback (CX?, DX, EX?) http://www.edmunds.com/media/reviews...k.r3-4.500.jpg
Please note, the differences between the models is very subtle. For example, exterior appearance is limited to color matched side body trim on the EX
Interior options were greater in the EX models, with DX coming stock with manual windows, manual locks, and possibly AC.
so in short, they all look almost exactly the same.

I'd look for something with a manual tranny, if it's not a bother to drive where you live (Stop & go traffic is common here.). I also like to have AC, cruise, and PW/PL, but you may not need the AC. PL are common basic options, but PW and cruise can be added with aftermarket parts for pretty cheap. The same goes for a fancy stereo. Few factory systems can even come close to a good aftermarket setup, and none have a detachable face or a front-panel jack for an MP3 player.Skip the EX and the Si versions, as they offer slightly less economy. Go more for something like an HX, CX, LX, or DX. Maintain it in good tune for best mileage.
If you want something to tear around in...Over time, and in no particular order, upgradethebushings to poly, the airfilter to a CAI, the exhaust to a header/flow-through cat/catback,the brakes to oversized 4-wheel discs, and the clutch to something more stout. Add on front and rear adjustable anti-swaybars, front and rear strut tie/tower bars, and some decent 15"-16" rims with good tires. Throw in a short-throw shifter and research your options for a limited slip diff. You'll have a Civic that handles/stops pretty darn well, gets better mileage than an EX or Si, rides better than an Si, and is pretty close to an EX for pep. Unless you plan on racing or something, you don't really need more power than a stock LX provides anyway. My stock '00 sedan moves just fine, even climbing at 10K ft altitudes with a full load of gear.
