Default d16z6 to d16y7

ok, so my brother owns a 94 civic ex. he ruined the motor in his car and it needs a swap. he said he can get his hand on a d16y7 pretty cheap. so i told him to get it. he has auto, so losing vtec doesnt matter to him. i searched to see how the swap works, but couldnt find anything. all i found was people swapping the d16z6 into their eks. so my question is, how will this swap work and what will i need. i already got a y7 dizzy, and the rest is on the car. the only thing im concerned about is the knock sensors on the y7. im guessing thats the only difference with them.

What harness should i use?
Do i have to wire in the knock sensor? and how?
and what ecu should i be using?

Thanks in advance

i would use the complete intake manifold and injectors off of the z6, because the throttle body faces up on the y7(that way you dont need a longer throttle cable), you can use your stock harness from the 94 ex just the plugs for vtec wont be used. you would need the obd1 distributor, because it has the crank sensor in it(the y7 has it near the timing belt). you can use the z6 distributor but only 2 mounting tabs will line up. but it would be fine, or just get a non vtec distributor 92-95. you can use the z6 computer, check engine light will be on. or you can get a 92-95 non vtec pm5 or pm6 computer. the y7 doesnt have a knock sensor so you wont have to worry about that. use the drivers side mount and and bracket from the z6. axles are the same.

i suggest putting his z6 head if its still good on the y7 block use only the block all other parts use from the z6.

^ I was going to suggest the same thing.

Did he destroy the entire engine, or just the bottom end? If the Z6 head is still good, I say swap in the Y7 block and keep the Z6 head.

Yea, what's wrong with the engine? If it's the head... I have a spare Z6 head that works fine that I could sell you

Ok. I guess he already swapped in the y7 motor in. So I can use the d15b7 (92-95 dx lx dizzy) and the 92-95 dx lx ecu?

Ok so my brother just did the whole y7 swap. Car drove fine for awhile and then it didn't start. And he let it sit for awhile. Tries to turnr it on and nothing. Bought a new starter and still nothing. So someone is looking at it for him, and said that the car didn't start because he needed a new cam. And his explanation for this was "the timing belt is going(turning I guess) but the dizzy isn't" that really didn't make any sense to me. Maybe someone can elaborate on this problem for me. My brother is a 'tard' when it comes to cars. He just knows how to drive it and put gas in it. He lives an hour away so I won't be able to check for sparl or fuel til this weekend.

wtf, needs a new cam? thats absurd. take the dizzy off to diagnose the problem. if the belt moves but the dizzy doesnt, maybe check the key in the cam gear? thats crazy. ive never heard of that. im trying to imagine how the guy knew the diz wasnt turning, but the timing belt was.
