Do a good deed!
Will some kind soul please post a picture of the "heat sheild" that causes all that rattling when the car is accelerating? I don't know what it looks like or where it is.
That rattling truely is the bane of my existence [:@]

alright, open your hood, something like this V and the little shiney silver shield with two bolts on it below my valve cover: usually one of the bolts break off or become loose and therefore cause a "rattle".

RE: Do a good deed!
I'll try that one. The one next to theengine was super tight and couldn't be the rattle.
But if it was the heat shield on the cat wouldn't that come from the back of the car? My rattle comes from the engine when I accelerate. Okay I confess, it's not my rattle. It's my girlfriend's rattle. Her mother gave her the car when she (the mother) got a new one. And actually here's another piece of the puzzle... I asked my girlfriend when the last time she had her spark plugs changed. I don't even think she knew what I was talking about. And if you knew her mother it’s possible they have never been changed since the day they bought it. BTW it's a 99' Civic LX 4cyl auto. I changed them out tonight and BOY were those plugs worn out. I mean the gap was like 3 times larger than it should have been. So I changed them out and she says the rattle is better but it is still there. I got in the car to hear the rattle myself and it is like... well... a rattle in the engine area. It only happens during acceleration and it's worst with greater acceleration. No rattle when braking. And I can't confirm this but she doesn't think it rattles on the interstate (aka higher gears), but she really couldn't remember. I’ll listen for myself tomorrow and report back
All right geniuses, have at it.
