DO VTECS NEED REGULAR VALVE ADJUSTMENTS
I just bought a 2008 DX Civic sedan. The maintenance minder booklet under #4 states: Replace spark plugs. INSPECT VALVE CLEARANCES.
The service technician at the dealership stated the valves don't need regular adjustment.
My question is do the valve clearnacesneed to be inspected on a regular basis, or are they pretty much maintenance free.
Thanks for any help. Just joined this site, and it has a lot of great information.

I pretty much don't bother with valve adjustments, I only did it once on my Civic and they weren't that much off. I have close to 294000 miles on the clock and I bought it new.
Most Civic owners just wait until the valves get noisy, then adjust them. But you may want to have them adjusted according to the schedule the first time, as that is the initial break-in when wear may be more significant. Also if your car is still under warranty at that time, have it done to avoid any warranty trouble.
It should not be very expensive. It's about a 30 minute procedure at most.

When you have the valve adjustment done, you will also need to replace the valve cover gasket andthe ring gaskets for thespark plug holes. After that initial adjustment is done, you will only have to do it again when they get noisy.
