Default Wheel Size without Adjustments?

Just wanted to see what the consensus was on the rim and tire size you can put on a 2000 Honda Civic EX without having to modify fenders or get rubbing during a "normal" turn. I realize there might be some rubbing in turns where you hit a dip, etc. Im thinking of getting 17s with 205/40/17 tires and want to make sure theyll fit without trouble.

Suspension is not modified but I plan on lowering it a little. Bascally I want to do tires and rims, turbo, exhaust. I want something that will be faster than stock but just as reliable. If you got any ideas let me know. Im used to my chevy tahoe and this is my first honda so im just getting into it, but I already love it.
