The car I'm looking at is a 2003 civic w/ about 100k miles. That pic isn't of the same car, but the engine wear looks similar to the car I'm thinking of buying. Is that kind of wear normal for about 100k miles?

Id say skip that car if the engine is tore up like that. At 100K, it should look a lot cleaner.

And wtf is up with you guys attacking the new guys? He already said it wasn't of the same car. He was simply showing a motor that had similar wear. We are not the ******* forum. That would be HT.

It mostly just looks dirty. I'm willing to bet that the Civic you're looking at is just dirty too in the engine bay. Get some engine degreaser and plastic bags. Cover the intake and spark plug tube holes with the plastic bags. Spray the engine and bay down with the degreaser while the engine is a little warm to the touch, let it soak, and then spray it down. I like to do this at a manual car wash, where a high pressure water hose is available.

To the OP: My bad man, I only read the first sentence. I thought some guy convinced you that that was from an 03.

Anywho, it all depends on location and upkeep. My engine bay is super clean only because I clean it every summer. Some people buy cars and never open the hood. Can you get any actual pictures??
