It seems usually my best runs are when I just feel for the shifts instead of staring at the tach. Of course there are perfect shift points, rpm wise, but I just rev until the car stops pulling. Max Hp is ~ 6600 so there isn't much need to shift too much later than that, especially since stock redline is 7200.

Double clutching is useless in drag racing. It was originally for old school road racing when the clutches were pathetically fragile and you had to match the engine speed to the tranny speed to bypass using the clutch.

^Very well put.

I try to shift between 6600, and 6800, and do it as fast as I can to stay in higher rpm's

My stock redline is 7500 rpm, I though it was the same for usdm z6's, y8's?

Sorry ignore that, i read it as rev limiter.

7500 in 1st, 7000 every gear after that.

"granny shifting" is shifting how normal people shift...normal people dont care about peak horsepower and they dont want to break things...

when youre racing, you have to want peak horsepower all the time, and not worry about breaking things...when i ran a stickshift...WOT shifts...launch....clutch in and out, never lift off the throttle, or barely at all...dont let the RPMs drop anymore than you have to, as the clutch engaging will do that enough. however, WOT shifting tends to find the weak points in your drivetrain...sooner or later...but thats racing.

that is oh so true, i have broken a few shift forks in my time, and replaced a few trannies

a friend of mine has a 95 sebring coupe, 4 cyl 5 speed...and his clutch and 3rd gear synchros were going out...we raced the crap out of that car...im not sure how many 1/4 mile passes it made...we even strapped a 75 shot to it...and that crappy stock clutch and trans, with 140,000 miles on it, last over a full year of regular beatings!

oddly enough, the final blow to the tranny wasnt from racing at all, but from trying to see how his new motor mounts changed the wheel hop, so with his regular non-sticky tires and on a bare street in front of his house, he took it up to the normal launch rpm and dropped the clutch, and the trans exploded...it LITERALLY broke part of the case off when the insides came apart...\

that is one thing that i should have pointed out...when racing, you need to consider your financial and mechanical ability to fix your car...if you dont do your own work, and you dont have the money to fix it...and its your only car, WOT shifting might not be the best idea...you wont go as fast if you let off the throttle a bit between shifts, but if its an older trans/clutch, the odds are good that youll be racing alot longer...
