^^ not so much

its alot about torque. a n/a jetta is a 2.0 with 115 hp but about 140 or more ft/Ilb of torque. a honda has about 106 ft/Ilbs.

and thats a jetta with a base model engine. it if had an exhaust and a intake it will blow a sohc honda out of the water with the same mods(been there done that) but stock vs stock the civic would probably have the edge. vw's have very restrictive exhausts

then you got the jetta 1.8 turbo 180 hp and about 180 torque too. then the vr6 at 200 hp and i don't know how much torque.

hp don't really mean anything, its driver skill and the weight of the car that make so much difference.

Control your emotions Buddy. Maybe he is just jealous of your car.[&:]

Of course he's going to say that, he doesn't have a civic.

And about the parts thing he's totally talking out of his ***,Honda parts are way cheaper. Anyone knows that.

lol, pretty much EVERYTHING that has to do with German cars is more expensive, even VW's.

Unless you can tell that it's either a 1.8 (the turbo engine, very nice) or the VR6 (expensive, pretty rare. I doubt your buddies have one). You'll probably beat a jetta/golf handily. Their stock engine is a turd. 110 hp in a car that's close to 3k pounds :/

If they really decided to put 5k into a turd of an engine like that, just drive off and laugh at them.

Yeah, take him up on his 5k bet. Unless he plans on dropping cash on a full set of tools for a Jetta from the dealership he won't be upgrading ****.

I used to own a Golf, and it pulled pretty hard... I could drive around town at 35 MPH in 5th because of the torque and still accelerate easily... but the car was still slow because the car weighed so much... Anyway, I had that car for a while and it ran like a champ... I could beat on that motor forever and it never gave up, I hope that I can do the same with my Honda In the end though, I think my Honda can accelerate faster than my Golf could, if he has the VR6, your done for, they pull really hard...
