My bad i thought thatsome of those yeard civics came with the b16b v-tec. Bummer it has a Dsereis engine, dont get me wrong you can still get alot out of a d series engine but the potential is more limited. What are you looking for in a car? Do you want something that looks nice? reliable (most hondas are pretty reliable)? something that has a head start on sooping it up? It all depends on what you are looking for in a car. But I agree^ its good to take it to a mechanic cause they can run some pretty simple test to assure the effeciency of your vehicle.
