I saw a 97 DX coupe, manual w/127,912 miles on it yesterday. Test drove it and took it to a mechanic too. He said that it was in great condition with the ONLY thing needing to be replaced was the oil pan as it had a small leak.

The owner ran a CARFAX, which came back clean and (I didn't know this but it shows on CARFAX if you service the car at a dealership)and all of the service work was listed.

The O2 sensor and timing belt and water pump were all changed per the report.

The car looks great and has always been well maintained and garaged.

What's the problem then? Well, he originally wanted $4500 and will go no less than $4300, which I think is ridiculous for an 11 year old car, regardless of condition. Am I being wrong about this?

I have searched for a month now (looking at 98-00 Civics, all models) and have yet to find any that look like this in all honesty.

It seems like the going rate, but these prices for these Hondas are ridiculously high.

KBB shows the car valued at $3795, NADA:$4100, Edmunds:$3392. I have found NADA to always be high regardless of if the car is a crappy one or not, and Edmunds tends to generally run the lower of all three.

So....good buy or not???????

 

$4300 for an EK is not bad at all, especially given the condition the car is in. And Hondas tend to keep pretty good resale values... that's why the prices are so high for the "older" cars (to me, an 11 year old car isn't that old).

 

Like Reaper said, Hondas do tend to keep good resale values. Especially with one is such good condition.

 

yeah sounds like a good deal. Anything wronng with it? usually the windows have problems

 

In my area, I'd pay that. EK's usually sell for 6-9k. You won't regret it... or shouldnt. lol

 

Yeah all these guys are right. hondas run forever. Have you ever had a honda before? My last honda ran up into 262K milies and it was still running strong. This is a really good buy! If your looking for a reliable nice car than this would be the best buy out there for you.

 

I bought my '97 DX Coupe with 112,000 miles for $3800, but it wasn't in quite as good shape as the one you describe. I had to replace the timing belt and water pump etc. and there were a few other minor things that needed to be done, but it hasn't let me down yet and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. I'm very happy with my purchase.
