The "spinning" sound... sounds like a spun bearing to me... the CEL code... well pull the actual code, search it on google, should find step by step. But ya... the "spinning" noise... is it a mettle on mettle sound? and does it change with rpm?

To tell ya the truth.. it really does sound like you spun a bearing, and that can happen really fast... and if you ran your car for a wile, (IF you had a spun bearing) you may have done a good amount of damage with mettle shrapnel... just a heads up, next time you run it, pull your oil fill cap off, do you have smoke? if so... ya... you are pooched, you WILL be able to repair the engine... but it may not be worth it.. but bring us back all of the info you can and we will go from there.

Good luck,
Largen.

P.S. and as for hitting 7 grand, it may not produce more power, but really? people stare > ha ha.

This will tell us more. And post up a video of the noise. We can speculate about what that clunkity-clunk or grind or whatever the noise is all day. It's a machine with tons of moving parts. There could be noise from anywhere. Pull your CEL codes and that'll give us more concrete fact to work with instead of speculating about how it could be this or it could be that.

Sounds like you ruined the bearings by running out of oil: time for a new engine. Especially on older engines it is important to check the oil between changes. They start to lose some by leaking or burning it, which is no big deal as long as you top it up before it is all gone.

Also the timing belt could have skipped, that causes a sudden loss of performance, but no unusual noises.

well, with engine damage... running the car would generally aggravate the issue so depending on whats actually wrong... driving can do more damage, but if there is nothing mechanically wrong (although it sure sounds like there is) driving wont hurt

Yes but you may have to convert to the z6 obd1 ECU, because the z6 doesn't have a knock sensor. I think so anyways, I could be wrong.

And those specks are bad.

Congrats. You spun a bearing. Or two. Don't drive the car anymore, it's toast. The CEL codes may still be stored. Please at least check so we know.

And yeah, Im pretty sure you'd have to convert to OBD1 with a z6 block. Look for a y7 or y8. You can mini-me a y7 to basically make it a y8.

Sucks that you had to learn a hard lesson about mistreating your engine. Things learned:

~High revs aren't nice to engines unless they're built for it.
~CHECK. YOUR. OIL.

In honor of your first engine kill, you should pull the engine and hang the ruined crankshaft on the wall. You can probably reuse the block as long as you don't keep driving it. If you do, you'll throw a rod through the block and that's it.
