my 99 civic lx began to make a incredible loud noise as i was driving the other day. It didnt make any noise as i started the car but as I arrived to my destination it sounded like i was in a porsche. Now while some people might actually like having loud exhausts especially on their civics I for one couldnt hear myself think. I am hoping this is something thats not gonna cost a fortune to fix. The car is at 203k miles now and in the last 3k its needed a new battery, a new exhaust, and whatever my mechanic tells me tomorrow. Thanks

 

your exhaust probably rusted through. my guess is where the piping attaches to the back of the muffler. this happened to my del sol the day after i bought it, but luckily i had an exhaust i was planning on putting on it anyway.

 

You should go back to whoever just did your exhaust and have them fix it under warranty.

I'd guess that it rusted through also. It happened to my old civic before. My dad does custom exhaust work so he did a number on my exhaust on my lunch break that day. It should be a quick fix though

 

My 98 EX exhaust broke right in front of the muffler, it had to be fixed pretty quick, because it was putting the exhaust right on the rear axle brake lines.

 

haha happened to me too bro. started up my car one day sounded like a motorcycle.. my exhaust had rusted out.

 

on my 97 the floating flange where the down pipe and mid pipe joined together let go and my car sounded like a pissed off weed whacker. I also had a couple good cracks in my header. I just swapped everything out for Megan Racing stainless steal header and drift spec exhaust and a magnaflow Hi flow cat.
