When it comes to insurance there are many factors:
Discounts (good driver, good grades, etc.)
How long you have been driving
What you want (full coverage/liability only)
And most importantly, if you (i see you are seventeen so I assume this would apply to you)
If you are still on your parents insurance plans.

When you get your first car, insurance is very high, and it gets higher if you crash. But like he said, it varies on every state and by insurance places. Shop around and get quotes from different companies.

Hey, if I had a college kid I'd only give him a used car and let him drive on liability. I'd be strict on him to be a good driver and not a crazy teen racer. Otherwise, if he gets in a crash / bad mess - I'd let him suffer for his irresponsibility.

When I was in college 88 - 90 I was driving an $850 1980 Honda Accord Hatchback. Cheap to insure, but someone wrecked it and I got paid well for it. Then mom bought me a $10,000 1990 Jackson Racing Honda Civic Si - a gift as I was close to graduation.

I'm 25 and I have 1 speeding ticket AND I just bought a 07 civic. It costs me I think 99 or 105 a month. The funny thing is I was so close to getting me a Mazda RX8 and believe it or not if I got that car, insurance would've cost me 5 dollars more on the RX8.
