i bought my 01 civic lx at a used car lot and all i got was the master key. is there any way of telling if it has keyless entry. the dealer i bought it from has no idea. is there a wireless reciever somewhere i could look for before i try to buy a remote for it?

On the 96-00 models the keyless entry and the stock radio are tied together. And if you have an aftermarket unit, and the keyless entry system wasn't left in the car then your screwed. But most of the time if someone puts in a aftermarket radio, they leave the keyless in there stuffed up inside the dash.

thats where the receiver is? can you give me any idea what it all looks like? i just put a new sony head unit in so im quite familiar with how to take it apart.

 

When you put in your headunit, did you use a wiring harness then plugged into a metal box under the dash?

I have the keyless entry part back there yeah. I dont have the whole thing though. Just the part that controls the keyless.

Wait, I just realized that you have an 01. LOL Sorry. It might be different on the 01's. Sorry about that.

But on the 96-00 the keyless entry unit is part of the stock radio, that is why I was asking.
