How does a window regulator all of a sudden just break?

I tried my life out to take that damn door panel out and i failed miserably, and in the end with college, i was just too busy to fix it. So i took it to the shop. The bill was about $250.

I really need to learn about working on cars more!

manual window regulator?
on my old civic the cable on it got all bent up somehow and i had to replace it. It actually happened to both rear windows. when i was taking the tint off when i got it (tint was crappy) and the window wouldn't roll anymore, and then the other time my friend rolled the window down once and it wouldn't roll back up.

window regulator was my first ever repair I did. Had a few stripped teeth so when it got tot the stop it kept constantly wanting to go up because it would drop 1/2" or so.

regulator was like $40 or $50.
