Default Maintenance questions for you Civic experts

Hey Folks first of I'd like to admit that I know very little about cars and mechanics however, I own a 2005 honda civic LX with 47,000km.

I've been going for regular oil changes at every 5,000km. When I brought it into the shop yesterday, the guy told me I needed three different types of flushes, transmission, power steering and something else.... are these necessary at such low KMs? The total $$ would have been almost $400.

What do you guys feel is the best value in terms of spending money on the car to ensure longevity...

You thoughts would be much appreciated.

All your maintenance needs are listed here.

The single best way to ensure longevity is to change fluids when they're due. Get to know your car, look under the hood, figure out what everything does, where it goes, etc... Download a FSM (Factory Service Manual) for your car, or at least buy a Haynes manual. If you're getting your car serviced at a shop then you're at least armed with a better understanding of it all, at best you may get inspired to tackle some things yourself.
