Default Is it my windows regulator motor or the switch?

I have a 2001 ex coupe. The window went bad last summer and well I am ready to fix it.

Is it the motor you think or the switch? How can I tell?

Does anyone have a guide so I can take the door apart myself and put the motor in? I am on a budget and I am handy with fixing stuff.

Driver or passenger window, or both? Have you checked for a blown fuse?

Measure the voltage at the motor while you press the switch. If you have 12 volts motor is bad(*), if not it's something else. Besides the switch and the fuse, also consider broken wires between the door and the frame (especially driver's door) and I think there could be a window control box under the dash.

(*) before condemning the motor unbolt it from the regulator and try again, if it runs then the regulator and window could be jammed, stalling the motor.

Well you can't get to the motor without taking the whole door apart? I have took the plastic panel off before but it looked rather hard to get the door apart.

No blown fuses anywhere. It is the driver window only.

Take the inner plastic panel off, you should see the wires for the motor. The metal frame of the door is one piece, you work on the window and locks through the holes in the inner part.

Okay if I need a new motor will this do?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...Q5fAccessories

It says "4 door" and this power seller just don't answer the email I sent him...ugh!

I have yet to see one just for a 2 door....I don't think they made them different for 2 doors.

How did you check 20A fuse 23 under the dash? You can't always tell that a fuse is blown by looking at it. Use this method that requires a multimeter or test light.

All fuses related to the windows and power locks checked out using a voltmeter.

The passenger window works and so does the passenger lock.

What next?

The window motor gets power on the Red/Yel wire to move it down and the Red/Blk wire to move it up. Pull off the door panel and check whether the window motor gets battery voltage on these wires. If so, check the whether the Blk wire has continuity to ground. If so, replace the motor. If the motor does not get power, I'll post a diagram for testing the driver's switch.

The motor has continuity so the motor is bad.

The next problem we are having is how on earth do you get the motor out? We undid the bolts and the motor is free but these cables won't come out, the ones that control the window.
