New civic owner here
Hi guys,
As my first post i'd like to introduce myself first.
My name's Ian, im 21 and im from Montreal. Im working for SNC-Lavalin as a land surveyor, i love my job!
Okay, i just came back from buying a used Civic SI 2000, it manual transmission, silver color, fully equipped.
It has 75,000 km and previous owner was a 35 year-old mom. The car in A1.
I just have one question, it's my first civic ever and i'd like you guys to answer my single question i have for now.
Ok, so is it VTEC? I think SI means its VTEC correct me if im wrong, but like the RPM-meter goes to like 8k rpm is that normal? friends with VTEC civic told me that you can shift your gears to like 8.5k RPM, so im unsure if its truly VTEC, i mean how can i shift at 8.5k when the max of my rpm-meter is 8k?
Thanks in advance !

Montreal as in Quebec? i am guessing by you profile that you are, well not to let you down or anything but we Canadians got screwed over with the SI, the good news is that it does have Vtec, the bad news is that you car is actually the equivilant of the Americans EX. out equivilant to their SI is our SiR. so you have a D16Y8 in there not the B16A2. so if your friend has an SiR that is why he can shift to 8.5K cause it has a higher RPM limit then you do. as well as it would depend on if his car is the same model as yours.
So for future notice, when you looking for parts for your car online, always get the ones for the EX cause 99% of the Si ones will not fit your car...

Ok, so what would be the ideal rpm for me to shift ? its completely stock i guess just bought it, i tried it with the vendor so i didn't want to squeeze it to its maximum.
Well what happened is that i had a 2003 dodge sx 2.0 (132 hp), had an accident with it (im not responsible, he never braked), and my car was totally ruined.
So is my SI 2000 more powerful than my sx 2.0?
Edit: BTW how many hp is in my new Si?

for your car it is 1.6L 16V SOHC VTEC-II PGM-FI 1590 127hp@6600rpm 107tq@5500rpm the curb weight of your car is 2518 lbs. so it has 19.8 lb/hp and 23.5lb/lb-ft tq
Where as your old sx2.0 had 2.0L 16V, SOHC, 150hp@6500rpm 135tq@4800rpm and the curb weight was 2567 lbs. so it has 17.11lb/hp. and 19.01lb/lb-ft tq so it is close and would probably be a drivers race. and as for shifting if you are just casually driving, then i would reccomend arround 3500-4000rpm, but if you are driving then i would say arround 5600rpm since you torque tops out at 5500

yeah, but the SI decal adds like 40hp and allows you to rev up to maximum rpm before every shift without killing the engine, right? Heck, put a different color 'H' on it and you'll have a race car.
sounds like a GREAT car if you aren't paying extra for a 'real' SI you aren't really getting

Well for your information the sx 2.0 you're talking about is the sport one i had the base model that has 132hp@5600 and 130tq@4600, so i guess my SI is slightly faster.
BTW i got my SI right here in my sidewalk, and im in love with it! I love it! Honda FTW!
