Ok, this is strange. I bought the car a about 10 days ago, a stock 99 EX coupe with what I assumed was a full tank of gas. In the first few days Ihad 120 miles on the OD and filled it with FIVE gallons of gas! 20 MPG right? Obviously something's wrong here, I wasn't driving it hard, Just back and forth to work and the store.

Well today was my second fill-up.. I couldn't wait so I only did 40 miles. Guess how much gas it took?

.65 gallons. That's61mpg! All suburb driving. I did a "top off" pumpand got .82 gallons into the tank, or 48mpg.

I know 40 miles isn't anywhere near aconclusive test, but it seems like my MPG is going to be just fine! I hate $3.40 gas.What the hell do you think happened with that first tank? I'm guessingthe PO didn'tfill it fully.The needle was above "full" for about 60 miles and then droppedfairly quicklyto above 1/2. Stuck needle maybe? Bad tank sender? Regardless, I was very worried. I guess Ineed to relearn that I have a Honda again, I never worried about my last Honda.

 

Partial tanksoften show weird results. The more gallons you put in the more accurate the results. Also one tank does not a trend make. See what you average over time.

ya drive it until its around 1/4tank for a good test!
my 99 ex auto tranny typical gets 26mpg when i drive nuts from time to time AND AC ON... and 38mpg highway with NO AC....
