Default non turbo performance mods like gear swap?

Everyone I talk to, just says to get turbo for performance. Back when I had a v6 mustang, people would always suggest mods such as getting 4.10 gears and underdrive pulleys and etc, but with civics I just hear turbo, turbo turbo.

Can't afford a turbo atm, can I get anything like a gear swap to get better acceleration? On my mustang I ended up getting a 4.10 gear swap, what gear ratio should I get on the civic? (98 ex) What other nonturbo mods would you recommend?

Not worth it. D series will do nothing without boost.

If my memory serves me right, the ex came with a fairly short geared transmission.

Sorry to say, but, your motor is an eco friendly motor... Drastic measures must be taken to have any substantial gains.

According to this you can gain 13whp from I/H/E

Keeping things basic, you can only do so much to 1.6L n/a engine

A lightweight flywheel should make a noticeable difference with acceleration. If you're planning on a turbo later I wouldn't even get all those bolt ons.

Do it right from the beginning, which I didn't do, or you'll end up doing it right later, assuming you want your car running good.

Man I was reading that article... I can't imagine spending $1300 to gain 16hp. That's $1300 to spend towards a good turbo set-up.

Heck, $1300 could get you an SRI, decent coilovers, and a knock-off bizi header, if not boosting.

Sometimes those articles just aren't realistic.

I'd imagine any short ram intake, decent header, and decent exhaust could get you the same numbers. I wasn't looking at the price but typically an exhaust would be around $400, intake another $100, header a couple hundred.

But yeah, either way it's a lot and could be use towards a turbo.
