Noob's first Civic
Hey everyone..
I'm buying my first car and it's definitly going to be a civic. I'm either going to get the 1999 or 2000 Si.
Now I have a question or two to ask you guys (the experts).. I live inCanada and I know the Trim is different than for the Civics in the States..
ex:The "Si" here are actually the"EX" model in the statesandour "Sir" is really the American Si.
I've read a few ads forCivics and I'm getting some what confused.. I'm notsure if its because the sellers don't exactly know what they'retalking about or if im just toonoobie.Tomy knowledge, only the Sir (cnd) or Si (amer) has a VtechDOHC engine,... but some sellers claim their local SI's have a V tech engine as well .. Can Anyone help me out on this one ??
I would REALLY appreciate it ..
Thanks !!

RE: Noob's first Civic
I believe that all Hondas have Vtec engines now and have for a while.Vtecstands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. American Si's do come with DOHC engines that are Vtec's as well. I'm not 100% sure if this applies to 99-00 Si's but I do know that it applies to the newer Civics. Hope I didn't confuse you more.

I'm not I expert but I figured I would throw my two cents in... Honestly I am not sure about the SiR or Si in canada, I would think that the SiRs would be like you said our Si in America, maybe even with a little more horsepower.. But the easiest way for you to figure out what is right would be for you to go look at these so called Si's and pop the hood... If the SiR says DOHC VTEC then you know thats the one... Most likely the Si's around there are just EX's(SOHC VTEC)... Sorry if I didn't help any lol....

I appreciate any kind of response haha. Thanks for the quick reply !
well i know for sure that the Canadian Si's are Ex's in the states.
so you guys are saying they're all Vtech engines.. but just the DOHC and the SOHC's make the difference?
