proud owner!
After a long search, I finally decided on, and found an '03 Civic Lx 5 speed. I love it, it has 43,000 on the clock and had one previous owner, who was an old lady. The car has been broken in very properly and I feel as if I can safely and smartly switch to synthetic oil. My question is, what oil filter should I use? And do I drain the conventional and just pour in the synthetic and replace the filter? Would a napa filter do? Thank you for your time.

That's pretty much all their is to it.... some people like to use this oil cleaner stuff (forget the name not seafoam) helps to clean out the sludge and deposits etc. between oil changes. Or go with a mix (syn and conventional) befor switching fully over to just synthetic.
But should be fine, the first time you use synthetic oil it will prolly get dirty quick because of the left over thicker conventional oil and sludge, deposits that the conventional oil didn't pick up. So it would be good to change it in like 2000-2500 miles or less depending on how black the oil is. this is of course IMO.
I always like mobil 1 products, filter and oil. I prefer the extended life filters the more expensive ones which are around $9. I've heard some bad things about Fram oil filters, so I don't use them.
