Default Putting Power Steering In A DX?????

so the dx is pretty basic as far as everything goes. roll up windows no power steering and all.

welll..... how hard would it be to put power steering in? i know it can be done, but just dont know if its worth the money. im sure i could do it myself, but im thinking it would prolly be cheaper to find a totalled civic (model that has power steering) and just rip everything out.. assuming they are in the same few years that parts would still fit.

so just want some input on the idea. and does anyone know that this has ever been done and if so in there a write up for it?

thanks..

Well, you need the power steering pump, the belt, maybe a pulley... I forget. I'm sure trustdestruction will jump in and help... I think you may also need the whole steering rack.

Yeah if you can find a parts car to strip, it's very feasible, everything will simply bolt on. You will need to have the wheels aligned after replacing the rack.

Buying all the parts new is quite expensive.

Glad I found this post. Been wanting to add power steering to my daughters car too. Anyone have any power steering stuff for a 95 Civic laying around?

If found a bunch of power steering parts on EBAY, but alot of them are for the D16Z6 SOHC VTEC 1.6L but I have the D15b7. Will they work on either motor or are they different?

Are the lines, brackets, and reserviors the same for any of the engines?

The only parts that attach to the engine itself are the crank pulley and the bracket. And I think those are the same. Everything else doesn't matter which engine you have, it needs to match the body of the car. So make sure it's for a 1992 to 1995 model. The Si may be different but any EX or LX rack will certainly fit your DX.

Use only Honda power steering fluid or something marked specifically as suitable for Honda. Generic "for most major brands" fluid will ruin the seals.

if your car is a 92-95 civic than any 92-95 civic/del sol with power steering will fit. i put a power steering from a 94 hatch into my 95 sedan.
just need the parts i mentioned above.
