If you remove all the power steering stuff and convert the rack to manual, you'll be fine. It's harder to steer when you're sitting still or going really slow, but once you get going faster than say 5 MPH it gets easy and you really can feel the grip of the tires on the road better.
To convert the rack to manual you need a few things:
18" -6 AN Braided Steel Line (or rubber, whatever you want really)
(2) -6 AN Hose Ends
-6 AN to 14mm x 1.5 Fitting
6 AN to 16mm x 1.5 Fitting
Then you put them all together and install as shown (I don't think you have the hole on the left (the one that there is no hose going to) on your car, because it's a 96-00 Civic. Because of this, I didn't put that part in the parts list above).

Get rid of the AC who needs it
I have steelies on my dx right now but only untile Friday..Then my steelies become my winter wheels!
I have the same air freshner too I lovee it! I need to get a refill on it though, you can't buy them around here in a store you have to order them off line. UGH!
